Anna Maria Patiño-Fernández, PhD P.A.

Dr. Patiño-Fernández is a child clinical psychologist. She received her doctoral degree from the University of Miami in Clinical Psychology, where she specialized in Pediatric Psychology, working with children with chronic illness. Subsequently, Dr. Patiño-Fernández was selected to join the internship class at Children’s Hospital Boston, an affiliate of Harvard University Medical School. After receiving her PhD, she continued her specialization in pediatric psychology at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. Here she received unique training as a postdoctoral fellow and member of the Oncology team. During that time she also received training in Pediatric Traumatic Stress.
Dr. Patiño-Fernández served on the faculty at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine (UM). As Assistant Professor in the Department of Pediatrics, she conducted psychological and psycho-educational evaluations as part of a large interdisciplinary team, provided consultation services to the pediatric Endocrinology team, and provided outpatient behavioral consultations and therapy to children with a chronic illness and their families. In addition, Dr. Patiño-Fernández has conducted research with children with diabetes and obesity and their families to help develop culturally appropriate evidenced based interventions to improve the emotional and physical health of the children. She has published numerous manuscripts and presented locally, nationally, and internationally on these topics as well. While at UM, Dr. Patino-Fernandez was also an active member of the training program, providing clinical supervision to graduate students, psychology interns, and postdoctoral fellows.
Dr. Patiño-Fernández is bilingual in Spanish and English. She performs therapy and evaluation services in the language that is most comfortable to the child and family.
Dr. Patiño-Fernández has been a member in good standing of the American Psychological Association and is bound by the ethics and guidelines of that organization. In addition, she is a member of the Florida Psychological Association, and the Society of Pediatric Psychology, where she was elected to the Board for the 2013-2016 term. She has served on the editorial board for the journal Clinical Practice in Pediatric Psychology. Since 2016, she serves on the Medical Staff at Baptist Children's Hospital.
